A fascinating itinerary to discover Reggio Emilia by following the course of the ancient Crostolo stream, now hidden but once the beating heart of the city. We will retrace the urban section of its old riverbed, sharing the story of its significance for the development of the city’s fabric and for Reggio Emilia’s spiritual identity, ultimately revealing its connection to the name of the city’s most important Marian shrine: the Ghiara.

Along the way, we will recall the memory of vanished places such as Guasco Island and the Oratory of the Five Wounds in Santo Stefano, forgotten yet pivotal landmarks. We will then enter the former Jewish Ghetto, home to the deconsecrated synagogue and the poignant Stumbling Blocks, silent symbols of stories that deserve to be remembered.

The tour will end in the central Piazza C. Battisti, where the Monte di Pietà – the economic and symbolic heart of ancient Reggio – once stood. A journey through hidden memories and rediscovered identities, to see the city through new eyes.
