4-Day Flores Overland Adventure: Labuan Bajo to Ende
This itinerary covers a scenic overland journey across Flores, highlighting traditional villages, unique rice fields, cultural experiences, natural wonders, and local traditions. Travel by private AC vehicle with an English-speaking driver-guide, including all entrance fees, meals, and overnight stays in mid-range guesthouses.
Day 1: Labuan Bajo to Ruteng (Spider Rice Fields & Village)
Depart early from Labuan Bajo (around 7 AM) for the 4-5 hour drive to Ruteng. Stop first at Todo Traditional Village to explore Ngada tribe megalithic stones, ancestral houses, and cultural rituals. Continue to Lingko Lindu Spiderweb Rice Fields, famous for their unique circular terraced patterns resembling spiderwebs. Overnight in Ruteng with dinner included.
Day 2: Ruteng to Bajawa (Lake, Arak, & Villages)
After breakfast, drive 3-4 hours to Bajawa via Rana Mese Lake in Manggarai Timur for short trekking, birdwatching, and stunning volcanic crater views surrounded by mountains. Visit Aimere for a local arak (palm liquor) processing demonstration, seeing traditional distillation from palm sap. Explore Bena Village's mega-megalithic complex and Wolobobo traditional houses before overnight in Bajawa.
Day 3: Bajawa to Moni (Hot Springs & Blue Stone Beach)
Drive 4-5 hours toward Moni with a morning soak at Soa Hot Springs amid lush scenery. Stop at Blue Stone Beach (Pantai Batu Biru) for its striking cobalt-blue volcanic stones, photos, and beachside lunch of fresh seafood. Arrive Moni by evening for relaxation; overnight with dinner overlooking the Kelimutu area.
Day 4: Moni to Ende (Kelimutu & Culture)
Sunrise trek to Kelimutu's tri-colored crater lakes (Enlarged Lake, Nue Lake, Tito Ata Pola Lake) at 1,500m altitude—start 4:30 AM for misty views. Return for breakfast, then visit the local Ende market for spices and crafts. End with Wologai Village's ancient megalithic tombs and Lio tribe traditions before finishing in Ende by afternoon.
