Pelarbacken

Once an execution place for Torkel Knutsson. From the 15th century there is several evidence of a chapel called Holy Cross chapel adjacent to the mountain and the road. The chapel was replaced in the early 16th century by a calvary facility, i.e. a place where pilgrims could make a walk in the footsteps of Jesus, a via Dolorosa up on Mount Calvary. Three stones, or pillars, marked three stations on the walk which has given rise to to the name Pelarberget or Pelarbacken, coated from 1638.
