This hike is one of those things you should do at least once in your life.
It's currently a great alternative to hiking to the summit craters of Mount Etna.
The route winds through lava fields and eruptive fractures, and you can experience the sensation of touching the still-hot lava, the result of the volcano's latest eruption.
During the route, you'll be accompanied by Volcanological Guides, duly authorized and registered in a special national register, who, in compliance with the ordinances of the local and civil protection authorities, will take you up to an altitude of 3000 meters.
Our starting point is at 1910 meters, in the parking lot in front of the Etna cable car departure station.
The cable car takes you up to 2500 meters. From there, you'll start your trek along a path nestled between the lava, passing through a suggestive eruptive fracture, and reaching the Barbagallo crater, which formed during the 2002 eruption.
Our visit continues on the lava fields lying along the sides of the South-East crater, currently the highest peak of Etna at 3357 meters. Then we'll head to the chasm of the Barbagallo crater, and on the way back down, you can admire the immense caldera depression of the Valle del Bove from the Belvedere.
After walking across the fun volcanic sands, you'll take the cable car back to the starting point.
