Meeting Point
Meet at Rifugio Sapienza at our offices located inside Bar Terrazza dell’Etna, right in front of the Etna South cable car station.
Ascent by Cable Car & 4x4
Take the cable car up to 2,500 meters, then continue across lunar-like landscapes aboard a special 4x4 vehicle that will bring you to 2,920 meters, where the trek begins.
Trek to the Summit Craters
The hike leads to the rim of the Central Crater at 3,400 meters.
From here, enjoy stunning 360° views: with clear weather, you may even see the Aeolian Islands, the northern coastline, and all of eastern Sicily.
Descent and Return Itinerary
After leaving the summit area, the route includes:
crossing the craters of the 2002 eruption
exploring a fascinating lava tube
admiring the vast natural amphitheater of the Valle del Bove
Return to the starting point at Rifugio Sapienza by cable car.
