What you can expect
Begin your journey with a visit to Thanda Safari Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Covering more than 3,000 hectares of protected wilderness, it offers the chance to experience an authentic African safari. The reserve is home to rhinos, giraffes, zebras, hyenas, warthogs, impalas, kudus, and nyalas, along with many other animals and over 250 bird species.
Explore nearby Zulu villages, learn about traditional customs, and interact with local communities. Shop for souvenirs and locally made goods at the curio shop, which is located near the lodge reception area. The shop offers visitors a chance to take home a small piece of their African safari experience. Many of the products are unique and reflect the culture and wildlife of the region. After the safari, overnight at St Lucia at a hotel or lodge.
On the second day, continue with a safari at Nambiti Private Game Reserve, another well-known private reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. This reserve is home to the Big Five and many other species such as giraffes, zebras, and antelope. Enjoy guided game drives led by experienced rangers who share knowledge about wildlife and conservation. After the safari, return to St Lucia for another relaxing overnight stay at a hotel or lodge.
Day three includes a visit to Thula Thula Private Game Reserve, one of the oldest private reserves in Zululand. The reserve is especially famous for its elephant conservation program and rich wildlife population. Participate in a guided safari where you may see elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and many other animals in their natural environment. After the safari experience, return once again to St Lucia for an overnight stay.
On the fourth day, focus on exploring the culture and history of Zululand. Learn about the traditions, lifestyle, and history of the Zulu people, the largest cultural group in South Africa. Activities may include visiting a Zulu cultural village, watching traditional dancing, learning about beadwork and crafts, and hearing stories about famous Zulu leaders such as Shaka Zulu. After the cultural experience, continue inland toward the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park, where you stay overnight in a mountain hotel or lodge.
On the final day, explore the breathtaking uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its dramatic peaks, valleys, and waterfalls. Enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, nature walks, birdwatching, and photography. The mountains are also known for ancient San rock art, which provides insight into the history of the region’s earliest inhabitants. After exploring the scenic landscapes, the tour concludes with departure from the Drakensberg area.
