What you can expect
Escape the city for a few hours and explore the beautiful and vibrant fishing village of Howth only 30 minutes away. Learn about its Viking origins and colourful past. Steeped in history Howth has charmed visitors for centuries and has been home to many famous writers, artists and rock stars.
Led by a local tour guide the tour commences at Howth Train Station and will take the visitor through the village of Howth towards the ruins of St Mary's Abbey & Graveyard, the Martello Tower and Howth East Pier & Harbour Lighthouse. Continuing back towards the marina we can observe the Yachts & Yacht Club as we make our way to the West Pier. This area is home to a strip of fashionable restaurants and bars serving a variety of food but most especially its renowned local seafood. With its relaxed atmosphere and charming stone buildings it attracts locals and visitors alike. We can note the Harbour Master's House, several fish mongers, the trawlers and fishermen. The local seals are very friendly and come up to the harbour wall seeking fish from the fisherman. If lucky they might be around on your visit. The tour finishes at the end of the West Pier.
Following the tour you can saunter around at leisure observing the trawlers and yachts and enjoy the general buzz that it is part of the Howth experience.
There is a lot to see and do in Howth but it is also an ideal location for those wishing to take it easy. On a fine day locals and visitors can be seen sitting around on the pier or grass chatting, enjoying the famous local fish & chips or just having an ice cream.
It is worth noting for anyone tired or short on time. Though the tour can take approximately 2 hours it all takes place in a relatively small circular area. At no time are we more than 10/15 minutes from our starting point.
