What you can expect

The UNESCO-listed region Wachau Valley near the Danube River is characterized by vineyards, abbeys, and forests and has a rich and interesting history worth exploring.

Krems: Krems is part of the Wachau region and full of wine villages, fortresses, and castles. Walk through the Old town and pass by the Steiner Tor. Afterward, you can take a break in a traditional tavern to enjoy a regional meal and taste the famous wines from this area.

Melk Abbey: Visit the Benedictine Melk Abbey, which overlooks the Danube River and don't forget to take some pictures of the impressive Baroque building and the beautiful surrounding nature.

Duernstein: Burgruine Dürnstein is a ruined medieval castle, located in Dürnstein, in the Lower Austrian Wachau region. The ruins of Castle Kuernriger, in which Richard Lionheart, King of England, was held a prisoner for a year, is the main attraction of Durnstein. The ransom was used by the Duke of Babenberg to build Vienna's city walls.

Boat tours: From April until October there are many offers for boat tours starting in Krems, Melk and other locations nearby. It is a great opportunity to enjoy the impressive landscape of the Wachau region from the Danube River
