Enhance your historical knowledge about World War 1 and learn about some of the most significant battles that influenced the course of modern Turkey. The Gallipoli campaign, also known as the Dardanelles campaign, the Battle of Gallipoli or the Battle of Canakkale was a formidable battle that lasted for more than half a year and claimed tens of thousands of lives. Under Allied command, British and French troops, as well as divisions of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC), landed at Gallipoli with the ultimate goal of invading Istanbul. The outcome was a catastrophic defeat for the Allies, not only in terms of human lives but also of political weakness.
Driving along the coastline, you will have the opportunity to visit the cemeteries and memorials dedicated to all the soldiers that lost their lives during this period including the Beach Cemetery, the Lone Pine Cemetery and Memorial, the Walker's Ridge Cemetery, the Chunuk Bair New Zealand memorial and Unknown Soldier's Grave, the Ari Burnu Cemetery, Mehmetcik Monument, the Anzac Cove and more.
At the end of the tour, your friendly Welcomer will drop you off at your accommodation in Istanbul.
