What you can expect
This tour is a scenic flight from Darwin and is guided by Kingfisher tours local Gija guides who are the custodians of Purnululu (Bungle Bunlge). You are picked up from your accommodation then trnasported by air to the incredible World Heritage listed Bungle Bungle.
On landing at Bellburn Airstrip (situated within the park) your Kingfisher tours local Aboriginal Custodian for Country guide will greet you before we jumping into the 4WDs and head off on the dirt track that runs alongside the western side of the escarpment as we head for Echidna Chasm. Enjoy some morning tea before enjoying a walk into the chasm and basking in it's golden glow as the sun breaks through. Hear the stories of the cheeky Echidna as we go, be fascinated as our guides share with you their generational knowledge of country and place.
Head back in the 4WD and travel around to Cathedral Gorge for an informative bush botanical walk where you'll learn about traditional bush tucker and medicines.
Once entering Cathedral your Gija guide will enlighten you with stories of the sacred pool and the gate keeper of the gorge, as well as sharing the space with you in their own personalised cultural way; storytelling, songs, dance or sand drawings. Lunch is provided in the gorge, then on to the lookout, learning about the cultural and geological history of the area as you go. Ice cold refreshments are provided at the end of the tour to reflect on the incredible day you have had with your guides.
Come back into the airstrip and join your pilot for the return flight back into Darwin along the coast as the sun sets.
What to bring : Water Bottle hat sunscreen light day back pack and a sense of adventure. The tour requires a level of fitness it is approximately a 10 km walk for the day.
