What you can expect
An itinerary exploring the darker sides of Genoa, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Ghettos enclosed by gates, crossroads traversed by the condemned, and alleys marked by superstition, power, and silence. A tour that reveals the real, uncomfortable facts about a city accustomed to keeping its secrets to itself. From the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, this tour explores a lesser-known side of Genoa, a city shaped by power, control, silence, and difficult choices. A city that has always known how to protect itself, even when its history became difficult to face.
We will discuss little-known events from the post-WWII period, when Genoa served as a transit port and temporary refuge for fleeing Nazi criminals, who were aided by cover networks also linked to ecclesiastical circles, before they embarked for South America. True stories, never spoken aloud.
The tour takes in the 17th-century Jewish ghetto, enclosed by gates that served to segregate and control, and then the Crosa Macabra, the route taken in the 16th century by those sentenced to death on their way to the ramparts of Monte Righi. A journey that left no room for illusions. Finally, there is the Crosa del Diavolo (Devil's Crosa), so called as early as the 16th century due to strange phenomena and popular fears that still fuel legends to this day.
This is an itinerary that does not seek to create special effects.
It tells the story of a powerful and contradictory city, made up of light and shadow, of faith and fear, and of truths that have long remained hidden.
