What you can expect

Step into the true story behind Schindler’s List on a guided walking tour through the authentic locations where history and cinema meet. Follow the journey of Oskar Schindler from his factory in Podgórze, through the former Nazi German ghetto, and into Kazimierz—the historic center of Jewish life in Kraków.

The tour begins outside Oskar Schindler’s Factory on Lipowa Street. Without entering the museum, your guide introduces Schindler’s remarkable transformation from businessman to rescuer, explaining how his enamelware factory became a place of refuge for more than a thousand Jewish workers.

From there, continue into Podgórze, the site of the former Nazi German ghetto. On Tarnowskiego Street, visit the filming location of the unforgettable “girl in the red coat” scene from Schindler’s List. Here, your guide explores the symbolism behind this iconic moment and explains how it reflects Schindler’s growing awareness of the atrocities unfolding around him.

Cross the historic Piłsudski Bridge, once a physical and symbolic divide between Jewish Kazimierz and the sealed ghetto. Along the way, learn about forced deportations, smuggling, and the daily struggle for survival under German occupation.

The walk continues through Kazimierz, where many scenes from Spielberg’s film were recreated. At Józefa Street 12, discover the courtyards and passageways used to film the dramatic liquidation scenes. On Ciemna Street, hear the remarkable story of Poldek Pfefferberg’s escape and survival. At the junction of Dajwór and Na Przejściu Streets, see the location where the film’s symbolic ghetto gate was constructed, representing the transition from freedom to imprisonment.

As you explore the preserved streets of Kazimierz, your guide explains how this vibrant Jewish district was emptied during the Holocaust and why Steven Spielberg chose it to recreate the destroyed wartime ghetto.

The tour concludes on Szeroka Street, surrounded by historic synagogues and the atmosphere of Kraków’s former Jewish quarter. Here, you will gain a deeper understanding of the community that once flourished, the tragedy that transformed it, and the enduring legacy of Oskar Schindler and the people whose lives he helped save.
