What you can expect
Departure from Reggio Calabria at 8:30 a.m., with pick-up service at your hotel or at a designated meeting point. The first stop is the Cathedral of Maria Santissima di Romania, a 12th-century Norman building that houses the icon of the Madonna di Romania, patron saint of the city. Walking through the narrow streets, you will reach the Belvedere di Piazza del Cannone, with a spectacular view of the Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola, perched on a promontory overlooking the crystal-clear sea.
This is followed by a small tasting of typical products such as the famous 'nduja and red onions from Tropea, then free time for shopping or lunch (not included).
From May to October, the tour includes a stop at Michelino beach in Parghelia. This is one of the most picturesque beaches on the Costa degli Dei, awarded the Blue Flag 2025, accessible only via a staircase from where you can admire a spectacular view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with the island of Stromboli appearing on the horizon on clear days. Once you arrive, you will find yourself in front of an unspoiled landscape: golden sand, imposing cliffs framing the bay, and a sea that varies from turquoise to deep blue.
In the afternoon, the tour continues to Pizzo, a seaside village overlooking the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia. The first stop is the famous Piedigrotta Church, one of the most fascinating and unique places in Calabria. The church, carved entirely out of sandstone rock close to the sea, was built in the 17th century as a result of a vow made by Neapolitan sailors who survived a shipwreck. Inside, there is a unique setting: statues carved directly into the stone depict sacred scenes, saints, and biblical figures, creating an evocative and almost surreal atmosphere.
We then continue to the historic center to visit Murat Castle, a 15th-century Aragonese fortress linked to the imprisonment and tragic end of Joachim Murat, King of Naples and brother-in-law of Napoleon Bonaparte. Inside, you can visit the museum with documents and historical reconstructions. A short distance away is the Mother Church of San Giorgio, an elegant Baroque building rich in decorations and valuable works of art.
The day ends with a walk through the historic center of Pizzo to Piazza della Repubblica, where you can taste Tartufo di Pizzo, the artisanal ice cream with a chocolate center that has made the village famous throughout Italy, in one of the historic ice cream parlors. Drop-off in Reggio Calabria scheduled for approximately 8:30 p.m.
