This is a self guided tour covering the story of Irish emigration from this port town, from where three million departed for various reasons to many destinations. From the British colonies in the early 1600's to the Caribbean islands, from North America to Australia. This is an emotive journey following the stories of many emigrants who left from here hoping for a better life in a new land. The Great Famine of the 1840's as well as the tragic loss of both Titanic and the Lusitania and their connections with this port are also included in this moving and educational exhibition.
We are uniquely positioned to tell this story . The Heritage Centre is housed in the Victorian Railway station where many of these millions of emigrants departed and whose last sight of Ireland was this port town.
The exhibition can be viewed at your own speed ( normally about one hour) and visitors can dwell as long as they wish.
The Heritage Centre is only minutes from the town centre of Cobh and twenty five minutes from Cork city by rail or road.
