What you can expect

  • Begin your private Churchill road safari with pickup from your hotel, airport, railway station, or another agreed location in town. Settle into a comfortable heated SUV or passenger van and travel with a knowledgeable local driver-guide through Churchill and the surrounding publicly accessible roads.

Travel towards selected Hudson Bay and Churchill River viewpoints while searching carefully for polar bears and other northern wildlife from the safety of the vehicle. During the main autumn season, polar bears may move through coastal areas while waiting for sea ice to form. Depending on natural conditions, you may also see Arctic foxes, red foxes, ptarmigan, snowy owls, or other subarctic birds. All wildlife observation takes place from a responsible distance, and guests must remain inside the vehicle whenever instructed by the guide.

Continue to Cape Merry, a historic coastal location accessible by road approximately three kilometers from Churchill. From the area, admire views across the Churchill River, Hudson Bay, and the distant Prince of Wales Fort. Visits remain subject to weather, local access, and polar-bear safety conditions. Parks Canada recommends reaching Cape Merry by vehicle and taking suitable precautions because encounters with polar bears are possible.

The tour may also include the exterior area of the Polar Bear Holding Facility, the Inukshuk, the MV Ithaca viewpoint where accessible, Miss Piggy aircraft wreck, local murals, and selected coastal photography stops. The holding facility is not entered as a regular visitor attraction, but its exterior is commonly included on town and area tours.

Pause for lunch or hot refreshments at a local café before continuing the road-based wildlife search. Complete the experience with a final Hudson Bay viewpoint and a short orientation around Churchill before returning comfortably to your accommodation In the case of force majeure and weather conditions, Park Canada notices client is entitle for full refund
