What you can expect
Start your authentic Chongqing culinary journey at Lan Breeze Restaurant, a trusted 13-year-old local neighborhood eatery favored by Chongqing residents for genuine home-style Sichuan flavors. This 3-hour hands-on experience takes you far beyond typical tourist activities, combining a cultural wet market exploration with professional English-led cooking training, allowing international travelers to dive deep into real local food culture rather than commercialized scenic spots.
Your experience begins at 13:30 with a warm welcome at our local restaurant. Savor complimentary welcome tea while our experienced chef deliver a detailed, easy-to-follow activity briefing.
At 13:45, follow our instructor to the well-preserved 20-year-old traditional wet market, a genuine local livelihood market that retains classic Chongqing market-day customs. Unlike Western standardized supermarkets with pre-packaged ingredients, this lively wet market features fresh homegrown farm produce, seasonal wild greens, handmade rural snacks, and a complete range of authentic Chinese spices. You will closely observe and learn about exclusive ingredients rarely seen overseas, including Sichuan peppercorn and fermented glutinous rice. You will also discover how local farmers sell fresh soil-grown ingredients and experience the real bargaining atmosphere of Chongqing’s local life.
Return to the restaurant kitchen at 14:40 to start your core hands-on cooking class under full English guidance. You will systematically learn to prepare three signature Chongqing dishes from scratch. First, make the famous Wanzhou Tomato Meatball Mini Hot Pot, mastering the skill of simmering rich, sour-sweet tomato broth and shaping tender meatballs. Next, stir-fry exclusive homemade sauce and mix classic Chongqing Pea & Minced Pork Noodles, the city’s iconic breakfast and late-night staple. Finally, craft the popular Panda Ice Jelly using traditional hand-rubbing craft, matched with osmanthus honey and fermented glutinous rice for an authentic local dessert taste.
After finishing all cooking steps, sit down to taste your self-made feast and share your culinary gains with other participants. Every guest receives a digital recipe booklet after the class, so you can recreate authentic Chongqing Sichuan dishes at home. The entire activity ends at approximately 16:30 at our restaurant, presenting you with a complete, cultural, and hands-on Chongqing food experience.
