Depths range from 12 to 60 meters, and places to visit include cliffs, islets, coral pyramids, and a submerged moai in front of the cove. The marine fauna is impressive, with a large number of brightly colored endemic fish, as well as sea turtles, which are often found in Hanga Roa Cove. It is important to note that the minimum age for diving is 10 years old and that diving is not recommended for people with asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, respiratory diseases, or for pregnant women.
Submerged Moai: Located just 4 minutes by boat, this iconic dive site on Rapa Nui features a moai designed by Mike Rapu in honor of his grandfather. The moai is located at a depth of 23 meters, surrounded by coral reefs. It is a relatively easy dive to 18 meters, showcasing a variety of fish and marine life in a pleasant 45-minute experience. Vai a Heva: Starting point for courses and introductions, Vai a Heva is ideal for those who are discovering the underwater world. With a coral reef and a sandy bottom at a depth of 10 meters, it offers a show of colorful fish. Schools of surgeonfish appear at specific times, making it suitable for beginners and a delight for experienced divers. The good visibility, maintained by preventing erosion, makes this one of the best dive sites in the world. Catedral: Named after an underwater cave, Catedral is a 20-minute boat ride away. At a depth of 15 meters, sunlight creates an atmosphere similar to that of a cathedral. Fish inhabit the dark interior, and outside, coral-covered rocks reflect the light. This is a low- to medium-difficulty dive, but paying attention to the currents is crucial. Jardín: Located 25 minutes to the northwest, Jardín features a pyramid-shaped underwater mountain covered in coral. With trumpetfish, damselfish, and more, it offers a unique experience. At a depth of 30 meters, a cavernous entrance beckons, creating an unforgettable landscape. Recommended for divers with medium to high experience. Omohi: An iconic dive, Omohi is located 30 minutes north of Hanga Roa and is of medium to high complexity. With volcanic fissures, it requires artificial lighting for caves. Soldierfish, damsel fish and lobsters appear. The dive, which does not exceed 35-40 meters, ends with a controlled ascent for a memorable experience. Diving restrictions: Minimum age of 12 years and must be completed at least 48 hours before the flight. People with asthma can dive if the disease is under control and there have been no recent episodes.
