Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Q: Are whale shark sightings guaranteed in Oslob?
A: Yes — whale sharks are present on virtually every operating day, so sightings are effectively guaranteed. You'll snorkel beside them from a traditional paddle boat for around 30 minutes.
Q: Will I definitely see the sardine run and turtles in Moalboal?
A: The Moalboal sardine run is present year-round and usually spectacular — millions of fish just off the beach. Sea turtles are often seen but, like all wildlife, can't be 100% guaranteed; density and visibility vary with daily currents.
Q: What time is pickup and how long is the tour?
A: Pickup is between 2:00–3:00 AM and the day runs about 12 hours, returning to your hotel around 4:00–6:00 PM. The early start beats the crowds at Oslob.
Q: How fit do I need to be?
A: A moderate fitness level is recommended. You'll snorkel in open water and do some light walking. It's not suitable for pregnant travelers. Life jackets are provided for non-swimmers.
Q: Is the Oslob whale shark experience ethical?
A: It's a debated topic. The whale sharks are fed small amounts to keep them near shore, which makes sightings reliable. Our guides enforce no-touching and no-sunscreen rules to protect the animals. We share this openly so you can decide for yourself.
Q: What should I bring and wear?
A: Swimwear, a rash guard or long-sleeve swim top, a towel, a change of clothes, water shoes or slippers. Skip sunscreen near the whale sharks — a rash guard protects you instead.
