Maidens' Cove

Maiden's Cove is a beautiful scenic lookout point nestled between Clifton’s Beaches and Glen Beach. Cape Point is the small cape jutting out towards the east from The Cape of Good Hope at the southern end of the Cape Peninsula. The Point has been treated with respect by sailors and navigators. The lighthouse on top of the pick is historically a landmark of great navigational value until the introduction of radar. At night ships had to approach closely to obtain bearings and thereby were exposed to the dangers of Bellows Rock and Albatross Rock nearby. Just Nuisance

This is a famous monument of the only dog -Great Dane- in SA, ever to be enlisted in the Royal Navy shore establishment in Simon’s Town between 1939 and 1944. Able Seaman ‘Just Nuisance’ was rating with rank, pay, rations and duties – the same privileges as any other rating with the same rank. of ‘Able Seaman’ (AB)served at HMS Afrikander, a Royal Navy, South Africa. He died in 1944 at the age of seven years and was buried with full military honors.
