What you can expect

  • Discover the Canadian Rockies in fall and winter! Settle into a warm vehicle with a local guide and explore remote wildlife hotspots and picture-perfect places in the parks.

Wildlife does not follow a schedule, so neither do we. Instead of taking a fixed route, your guide checks recent activity and winter conditions, then heads toward the most promising areas. Watch for elk, bighorn sheep, and moose. You might even spot a wolf, although sightings are rare. Along the way, your guide will share local stories and help you look for signs of wildlife.

This tour runs from September 1 to April 1, following the changing seasons in the Canadian Rockies. In fall and spring, we look for wildlife moving through the valleys. Fall brings golden trees, the elk rut, and opportunities to photograph the landscape in colour. In winter, we explore snow-covered wilderness and look for animals in their winter habitats.

This is primarily a driving safari. From the comfort of a warm vehicle, we can travel farther along secondary roads to quieter locations, with stops for wildlife viewing, mountain scenery, and photographs when conditions allow. After April 1, our summer wildlife tour takes over.

Enjoy snowy valleys, frosted forests, and mountain views from the comfort of the vehicle. When conditions allow, we will stop so you can step out, take photos, and experience the quiet of the winter wilderness. Our vehicle has titanium-studded winter tires to help us reach suitable scenic locations, while your guide chooses the route based on the day’s road and weather conditions.

The tour runs from fall, when wildlife begin their seasonal movements, through April, before our spring and summer tours start. Winter wildlife can be harder to find, and sightings are never guaranteed. That is part of the adventure: following the clues and seeing what the mountains have in store.

Dress in warm layers, bring your camera, and join us for remote winter scenery, amazing photo opportunities, and the possibility of an unforgettable wildlife encounter!

Explore the quieter roads of the Canadian Rockies on a wildlife tour in our specialized winter vehicle. Your guide will travel along secondary highways and remote roads, looking for wildlife and stopping at scenic places for photographs. When conditions are safe, you may step outside to watch wildlife or take a short walk to picture-perfect viewpoints of Canada in the fall and winter.
