Join a small group day trip to see the amazing natural phenomenon of Gunung Leuser National Park in Bukit Lawang.
Start your expedition by meeting the guide in Bukit Lawang and continuing into the national park. Enter the beautiful old-growth lowland rainforest, surrounded by many large, old trees. The forest is wonderful for primate watching, as it is home to Sumatran white-handed gibbons (Hylobates lar vestitus), southern pig-tailed macaques, Thomas’ leaf monkeys, also known as Thomas’ langurs, great argus pheasants, and Sumatran orangutans.
The tour is offered in two options: a 3-hour option and a 6-hour option. When exploring nature, spending longer in the forest increases the chance of seeing more wildlife.
After a few hours in the forest, head back to the village of Bukit Lawang. Raft back along the Bohorok River in a large rubber tyre fitted with a hammock-like mat on the bottom for seating. Float back to the village past the beautiful forest, large dipterocarps, and tree ferns.
