Experience Bruny Island's most iconic and historic landmark, the Cape Bruny Lighthouse. Allow around 2.5-hours to self-drive from Hobart, making your way to the island by road and then ferry. The Cape Bruny Lighthouse is open daily. It was built by convicts in 1835 and first operated in 1836.
Your guide will meet you at the entrance to the lighthouse where your adventure begins! Learn about the making of the lighthouse and it’s reason for being where it is. Climb the magnificent iron spiral staircase to the first level where the light-keepers would have once sat for daily observations, recording the weather and shipping movements.
Take the slightly steeper stairs to the prism/light room where your guide will explain how all the mechanisms operated. Then, step out onto the balcony that is 114-meters above the sea. Marvel at stunning views and benefit from the perfect opportunity for some amazing photos. Watch the water below for seals and albatross that live and feed in these waters.
