What you can expect
Drive south to the mangroves as your guide shares insights about the history and sites of Bonaire. Ask questions and explore before arriving at beautiful Lac Bay.
Discover the mangrove forest of Lac Bay, one of the best-preserved mangrove forests in the Caribbean. For generations, this lush, green environment has served as a home and incubator to native fish, baby rays, lobster, and seahorses. The bushy and beautiful trees and their deep, webbed roots, protect Bonaire from extreme weather conditions. In fact, it’s rumored that they’re strong enough to withstand the wind and water to the point of slowing a tsunami.
The mangroves are a series of narrow channels that are covered by natural canopies made by the bending of the mangrove trees that house birds, fish, and clean the water. For centuries fishermen and tourists have been visiting, kayaking, and exploring this area of rich waters. Historically, they also provided means to make household items and played an important role in the fishing community, which you will learn about on this tour.
