What you can expect

  • Mainz has not only idyllic alleys, wine, and cathedral history to offer – but also dark chapters full of power struggles, fear, intrigues, and crime. On this special Crime Tour, you will discover the city from an unfamiliar perspective and follow the traces of revolts, witch trials, public punishment, and historical scandals through almost 2,000 years of the city's history.

The guided tour begins at the Citadel, a place that stands for control, power, and conflict like few others. From there, the path leads down towards the Old Town – past former prisons, hidden nooks, and historical sites around Windmühlenberg, Hopfengarten, Holzturm, Höfchen, and the cathedral.

You will learn how political camps divided Mainz, why people were publicly humiliated, and how fear and rumors shaped life in the city. Historically sound, atmospherically narrated, and far removed from classic city tours, this tour offers a fascinating look at the other Mainz.

For a relaxed conclusion, a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic alternative awaits you in the historic cherry orchard at Wein & More | Kirschgarten29.
