For three generations, the Virna winery has been producing the famous wines of the Langhe region. Today, the winery is run by sisters Ivana and Virna Borgogno; Virna was the first woman in Italy to obtain the title of oenologist. The wines pay homage to the terroir and express a feminine touch in the purity and elegance of the Nebbiolo grape. We will take you on a journey to learn about the winemaking process and visit the aging rooms with the famous oak barrels where Barolo is aged for at least 18 months. You can also visit the bottle-aging room and see a collection of historic Barolo bottles dating back to the 1960s. Afterward, in the tasting room with its brick vaulted ceiling, you will be able to taste four different Barolos that reflect the various terroirs: Barolo Mga Cannubi, Barolo Mga Sarmassa, Barolo DOCG Noi, and Barolo from the municipality of Barolo. We will show you the official Barolo map and explain the history of the area and the differences in soil characteristics that give rise to this extraordinary wine. This is not a standard tourist tour: you will discover the most hidden aspects, and we will offer you a guided tasting experience that will enhance your visit. You can purchase your favorite wines and return home armed with plenty of information and interesting anecdotes.
