Immerse yourself in one of the region's most representative artisan traditions and discover the art of traditional rattan basketry with a local artisan.
The experience begins with a pick-up from your accommodation in the town center of Barichara. From there you will travel to a nearby vereda by Jeep or tuk-tuk, where you will meet a craftsman who has spent years preserving this craft passed down from generation to generation.
During the activity, you'll learn about the origin of the bejuco, its characteristics, the material selection process, and the cultural importance of basketry in rural life in Santander. The artisan will share the history of this traditional knowledge and give a step-by-step explanation of the techniques used to make the baskets.
You will then actively participate in the making process, learning how to handle the material and build your own piece under the artisan's guidance. No previous experience is required, as the activity is designed for beginners and people interested in learning about an authentic tradition of the region.
At the end, you can take the basket made during the workshop with you as a souvenir of this cultural experience. After the session, we'll return to Barichara.
This private experience combines learning, tradition, and direct contact with the local culture, allowing you to get to know a craft that is still alive thanks to the work of the region's artisans.
