Many centuries ago, Bamberg’s market gardeners exported their products (mainly onions, seeds and sweet licorice) throughout the world. The gardeners from Bamberg even had a special nickname, 'onion treaders'. In the market gardeners’ district, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site of Bamberg, you can still see the typical gardeners’ houses from various centuries, with living and working quarters close together.
During this guided tour you’ll get to know the character, the traditions, and the customs of this historical district, and you’ll visit the organic gardening of one of the current gardening families in Bamberg. A stopover in the market gardeners’ and wine growers’ museum shows the living and working environments of the market gardeners and wine growers of former times.
