What you can expect
Explore Villa San Michele, one of the most enchanting cultural landmarks on the island of Capri. Created by the Swedish physician, author, and humanitarian Axel Munthe, the villa was built in 1895 on the site of ancient Roman remains and a medieval chapel.
Admire the villa’s beautifully preserved rooms, extraordinary panoramic views, and lush gardens, considered among the most beautiful in Italy. The iconic Egyptian sphinx, overlooking the sea from its panoramic terrace, offers one of the most spectacular viewpoints on Capri, where you can enjoy breathtaking vistas of the island, the Bay of Naples, and the surrounding coastline.
See the villa's remarkable art collection, carefully assembled by Axel Munthe throughout his life. The collection includes sculptures, bas-reliefs, inscriptions, mosaics, sarcophagi, and architectural fragments, primarily of Roman, Etruscan, and Egyptian origin. Munthe selected each piece not only for its artistic beauty but also for its symbolic meaning, creating a unique dialogue between art, history, and spirituality.
Discover how thoughtfully Munthe arranged the pieces throughout the villa. In his bedroom, for example, he placed a statue of Apollo alongside representations of Hypnos, the god of sleep, and Narcissus, creating meaningful symbolic connections between the artworks and their surroundings.
In case of adverse weather conditions booking can be changed, subject to availability or fully refunded.
