Overview

What Makes “Walk and a Pint” Unique?

Walk and a Pint is more than a standard tour; it’s a social event. We blend an engaging walk through Amsterdam's history with a relaxed, social gathering at a local pub.

Unlike typical tours that focus on dry facts, our experience is about connecting with people and truly feeling the city's pulse. I share a local's perspective, offering personal stories and hidden insights you won't find in a guidebook.

The walk is the journey, but the well-deserved pint is the destination, where you can relax and share stories with your fellow walkers. It’s the perfect mix of active discovery and laid-back socializing, making for an authentic and memorable experience.

Activity itinerary

Dam Square
  • 15m
Dam Square is more than just a central point; it's a living history book. We'll start our walk here, surrounded by iconic landmarks like the Royal Palace, the historic Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), and the solemn National Monument. We’ll talk about its past as a lively marketplace and its role as the city's political and cultural heart, all while taking in the buzzing atmosphere and the endless flow of people.
Oude Kerk
  • 5m
Just a stone's throw from Dam Square stands the Oude Kerk (Old Church), Amsterdam's oldest building. While it's prohibited to host official walking tours within the Red Light District, we'll pause for a moment to admire its stunning architecture from a distance. I'll share some of its more colorful and intriguing stories.
Zeedijk
  • 10m
From there, we'll navigate the historic Warmoesstraat and the vibrant Zeedijk, a street that traces the city's ancient dikes, as we make our way towards the Nieuwmarkt and the medieval Waag—the old city gate.
Nieuwmarkt
  • 10m
From the narrow streets, we'll open up into the Nieuwmarkt (New Market), a vibrant square dominated by the imposing Waag. This iconic medieval building once served as a city gate and later as a weigh house. Today, the square is a lively hub, with a daily market, bustling cafes, and the constant hum of Amsterdam life. It's a perfect spot to take a moment and feel the pulse of the city, surrounded by buildings that have witnessed centuries of change.
Waterlooplein Market
  • 25m
As we leave the Nieuwmarkt, we'll pass by some of Amsterdam's most unique sights. We'll see the narrowest house in the city, a quirky landmark that shows how people once maximized every inch of space. We’ll also catch a glimpse of the old Dutch East India Company (VOC) headquarters, home to the world’s first publicly traded company. Our walk culminates at Waterlooplein, a square that was once the heart of the Jewish Quarter. Now, it's home to a lively flea market where you'll have time to browse for vintage treasures, unique souvenirs, and soak in the vibrant, bohemian atmosphere.
Rembrandtplein
  • 10m
From Waterlooplein, we'll head towards Rembrandtplein, a vibrant square named after the famous Dutch painter, Rembrandt van Rijn. Here, we'll be surrounded by a bronze statue of Rembrandt and his most famous creation, "The Night Watch," brought to life with life-sized bronze figures. The square is the heart of Amsterdam's nightlife, lined with bustling cafes, bars, and clubs.
Reguliersdwarsstraat
  • 10m
We'll then stroll down the famous Reguliersdwarsstraat, a lively and inclusive street known for its vibrant LGBTQ+ scene and countless popular clubs and pubs. It's the perfect way to get a taste of Amsterdam's after-dark energy before heading for our pint!
Emperor's Canal (Keizersgracht)
  • 10m
From Rembrandtplein, we'll continue our journey towards the Leidsestraat, one of Amsterdam's most elegant and popular shopping streets. As we walk, we'll cross three of the city's main canals: the Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht, offering fantastic views and a true sense of the city's iconic canal ring. Near the Prinsengracht, we'll see the impressive Rosewood Hotel, housed in the former Palace of Justice. This is considered one of the most luxurious hotels in the Netherlands and is a self-proclaimed '6-star' hotel. While Leidsestraat is a vibrant hub for shopping and dining, it also serves as a gateway to the famous Nine Streets (De Negen Straatjes), a picturesque neighborhood of boutique shops and cafes. We'll take a moment to admire the scenery and discuss the city's unique blend of commercial life and historic architecture before our final stop.
Leiden Square (Leidseplein)
  • 10m
Our walk concludes at Leidseplein, one of Amsterdam’s most famous and vibrant squares. This is the city's entertainment hub, bursting with theaters, music venues like the renowned Paradiso and Melkweg, cinemas, and a lively array of pubs and restaurants. As we finish our journey, we’ll take in the square’s lively atmosphere and reflect on the diverse history and culture we’ve experienced. It’s the perfect place to raise a glass and enjoy a well-deserved pint, surrounded by the energy and buzz of Amsterdam nightlife.
