This museum complex features eight original Shiretown buildings, each filled with stories that bring the region’s vibrant past to life. Wander through 23 themed galleries, including the Natural History Exhibit, and immerse yourself in the tales of the “People of the Tides” —pioneers, artisans, shipbuilders, farmers, Explore the R.B. Bennett Centre and meet Canada’s 11th Prime Minister, who grew up along these very shores.
As you stroll through the original County Gaol, pause to read the layers of prisoner graffiti—names, drawings, and poetry that echo the voices of the past. You will also learn the story of a notorious axe murderer, who was put on trial in the nearby Court House and was found guilty - but was he innocent? Visit and decide for yourself!
Visit “Between the Tides”, a great experience for families and curious minds of all ages, and enjoy a learning adventure in both English and French. The museum is pet-friendly, so your leashed dog is welcome to join you. With picnic tables and ample RV parking, it’s easy to make a day of your visit.
