What you can expect

  • Follow breathtaking trails through Ecuador’s central Andes on this private 3-day hiking adventure. Journey across páramo highlands, deep canyons, and charming mountain villages while meeting local communities along the way. Overnight stays in cozy hostels with fireplaces offer comfort after full days of exploration.

Day 1 – Quito to Quilotoa via Tigua
Depart Quito and head south through Latacunga and Pujilí. Stop at a local indigenous home to learn about traditional clothing and daily life. Continue to Tigua, famous for its vibrant folk paintings, before reaching Quilotoa Volcano. Hike down to the turquoise lake inside the crater and, if you choose, ride a mule through the rugged landscape. Overnight in a local hostel near Quilotoa.

Day 2 – Quilotoa to Chugchilan
Start a 5–6 hour hike from the crater rim, descending into Toachi Canyon and climbing back up toward Chugchilan. Marvel at views of the Andes’ snowy peaks and lush valleys along the way. End the day in a comfortable mountain hostel.

Day 3 – Isinlivi and Return to Quito
After breakfast, set out on a 4-hour trek into the Toachi Canyon, descending 1,300 ft (400 m) to the river and then climbing 1,000 ft (300 m) up to Isinlivi. Enjoy a final lunch before your drive back to Quito.
