What you can expect
Day 1: We set off from the meeting point by coach for the ferry terminal; the journey takes approximately 4 hours. Upon arrival at the terminal, we will have a light lunch before boarding the ferry.
Upon arrival at Kefalonia, we will visit three lesser-known attractions on the island, guided by our tour guide.
The Corona Monument, which has stood since 1813, is a symbol of the Kefalonian Parliament’s gratitude to Britain. The obelisk bears plaques in four languages: Greek, English, Italian and Latin, inscribed with the words ‘To the Glory of the British Empire’. St Theodoro Lighthouse is situated on an artificial peninsula near Argostoli, the island’s capital. It is a Doric-style structure with a circular base supported by 20 columns. It was originally built by the British governor Charles Napier in 1828, whilst he was in charge of the island.
The Waterwheel: In 1835, the British built a number of corn mills, but an earthquake destroyed everything. Surprisingly, nothing has altered the flow of water into and out of the waterwheel. This is one of the most astonishing geological phenomena in the world. Afterwards, check into the hotel and, depending on the circumstances, explore the surrounding area.
Day 2: visit, in turn, the Fairy Cave, the Drogarati Cave and the Pink House where Dilraba stayed, before exploring the town’s beautiful scenery. The Fairy Cave is one of the most important attractions for tourists in Greece. Surprisingly, there is a lake inside the cave, surrounded by trees
and woodland. The cave itself is B-shaped, and the lake is between 20 and 30 metres deep. When the sun is directly overhead at midday, the sunlight
shines down onto the azure waters, and the entire cave suddenly seems to be bathed in a blue glow, as if you have stepped into a fairy-tale world.
Drogarati Cave was discovered 300 years ago and opened to the public in 1963. They were only discovered when a powerful earthquake caused a collapse that revealed the cave entrance. It is an impressive cave, featuring stalactites and stalagmites. Speleologists say the cave is approximately 150 million years old and represents a rare geological phenomenon.
Day 3: After breakfast and check-out, we head to the most beautiful beach on Kefalonia—Myrtos Beach—a stunning stretch of sand nestled amongst lush
green mountains. Mylidos Beach has gained international renown and is consistently ranked by travel magazines among the best beaches in Greece and indeed the world. It has won numerous awards for its crystal-clear waters and natural beauty. Free time for everyone to enjoy their own private moments
on the island. Depending on circumstances, 1–2 off-the-beaten-track attractions may be added to the itinerary. Finally, we return to Athens, arriving at approximately 19:30.
