Inaugurated in 1993 under King Hassan II and designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, the mosque stands partly over the Atlantic Ocean, inspired by the Qur’anic verse describing God’s throne above water. Its spectacular 210-meter minaret is one of the tallest in the world. During this visit, you will explore the mosque with an official mosque guide who speaks your language, discovering its remarkable architecture featuring traditional Moroccan craftsmanship such as zellige tiles, carved wood, marble, and intricate stucco decoration. The complex can accommodate up to 105,000 worshippers, including 25,000 inside the prayer hall. You will also learn about the mosque’s modern features such as the retractable roof and laser pointing toward Mecca.
