Experience Maui’s most exciting whale watch on a 1.5-hour guaranteed humpback whale watching adventure with Blue Water Rafting departing from the Kihei Boat Ramp, the closest launch point to Wailea and just minutes from all Kihei and Wailea resorts. With free parking available, getting to your tour is fast, easy, and stress-free.
This tour is designed for maximum whale time and minimal travel time. Our fast, agile rafting vessels quickly reach prime whale habitat along Maui’s calm south shore, allowing more time observing humpback whales and less time cruising. Morning departures offer the smoothest ocean conditions, ideal for photography and eye-level viewing.
During whale season (December through April), Maui’s south coast becomes a sanctuary for humpback mothers, calves, and escort males. Whales are often spotted quickly, providing ample time to watch surface activity such as breaches, tail slaps, and nursing behavior. Our small-group format creates a personal, adventure-style experience you won’t find on large boats.
A highlight of the tour is the onboard hydrophone, allowing guests to listen in real time to the hauntingly beautiful songs of humpback whales beneath the surface. Tours are fully narrated by experienced local naturalists who share fascinating insights into whale behavior, migration patterns, and Hawaiian marine life.
We strictly follow all federal whale-watching regulations, maintaining safe distances at all times. However, humpbacks are naturally curious, and close encounters of 100 yards or less sometimes occur on their terms. To ensure whale safety and responsible operations, tour times may occasionally be slightly extended, with additional buffer time built into the schedule.
Your whale watch includes water and refreshing Hawaiian juices, dry storage for small bags, and expert guidance throughout the journey. Guests are encouraged to bring reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a light jacket, and a camera.
