Riverwalk

Explore this scenic spot brimming with shops, historical structures, and ample green space, right in the city centre.

Take a stroll along The Riverwalk, comprising the north and south banks of the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and you will come across some of the city’s most popular attractions, including the Museum of Discovery and Science, the Broward Center for Performing Arts and Old Fort Lauderdale.

Originally the first settlement in Fort Lauderdale, The Riverwalk is home to some of the earliest architecture, set against the backdrop of luxury yachts in the marina.

Meander through the 1.6-kilometre paved walkways that bring you around the area to discover the many historic attractions, including the 1907 King-Cromartie House, and the 1899 Replica Schoolhouse. Check-in at the oldest remaining hotel in Broward County, the 1905 New River Inn, or see the county's oldest surviving structure built in 1901 by the city's founder Frank Stranahan, the Stranahan House Museum, which once served as the town hall and post office. House tours will take you on a journey through time and is available daily, excluding public holidays.

Hop on a tour boat to see the New River from a different perspective. Take your pick from the many tour companies that operate river cruises that depart from the marina or the Los Olas riverfront. During the cruise, you'll pass by swanky yachts and extravagant mansions that had been homes to celebrities like Sonny and Cher, and Lucille Ball.

Scour the various shopping spots for souvenirs to bring home, from luxury brands, artwork, to home ware. If you time your visit to coincide with the fourth Sunday of every month, you’ll see the local artists who gather at the Riverwalk Sunday Arts event to showcase their creations. After an afternoon admiring artwork, retire to one of the many themed bars and restaurants just a stone's throw from the waterfront. Well-lit walkways and boisterous bar hoppers make for a pleasant night out.

Located downtown, The Riverwalk is accessible through a number of city bus routes, and parking is available nearby if you decide to drive.
