See Berlin’s Fernsehturm and its sphere from almost all of the city’s districts. The tower has been a symbol for the city since it was completed in 1969. The German Democratic Republic commissioned the tower in the late 1950s for TV and radio transmission. The design was modeled on the TV tower in Stuttgart and the Soviet satellite Sputnik.

Enter the tower’s angular base building to soar up to the sphere in one of the Fernsehturm elevators. If you want to work for your view, climb the 986 stairs that ascend to the viewing platform.

Head up one story from the viewing platform to the Fernsehturm revolving Sphere Restaurant, where you can enjoy a meal and a German pilsner as you look out over Berlin. The sphere rotates once every half hour. Visit the gift store located in the base building to pick up souvenir items such as T-shirts and posters.

Fernsehturm is centrally located at Alexanderplatz. Come by train, tram or bus.

Admission to the TV Tower includes access to the viewing platform and bar. Bookings are recommended for the Sphere Restaurant. Watch the weather report to book advance tickets for an upcoming clear day and arrive early to avoid long lines. Children under 4 get in free.
