Aquadom

This vast cylindrical structure is packed full of marine life, ensuring that visitors can enjoy all the beauty of the ocean right in the centre of Berlin.

To visit the AquaDom, board the glass lift which will take you on a journey straight to the centre of the cylinder. The experience of being inside the cylinder is quite spectacular, with visitors finding themselves surrounded by over 1 million litres of water, and with the opportunity to view over 1500 marine creatures at very close quarters.

Over 80 species of marine life reside at the AquaDom, with fish of every shape and colour available for visitors to admire. Come face to face with such residents as the Paddlefish, also known as the Pinocchio fish due to its long nose, to the orange and white Clownfish, which is instantly recognisable to many children from the film “Finding Nemo”.

A particularly enjoyable aspect of the steady ascent through the 25-metre tall cylinder is the knowledgeable guide travelling in the lift with you, who will give you a greater insight into the exciting sights that you are witnessing.

After dark, the AquaDom is lit up, making a winter’s evening in the cylindrical aquarium particularly striking, making this a popular time to visit the AquaDom, in spite of the inclement weather. In addition to the main attraction, the AquaDom is also part of the Sea Life Berlin aquarium. You can buy one ticket for access to both attractions. There are 35 separate tanks at the Sea Life centre, containing a wide variety of marine life, including eagle rays, catfish, sharks and an octopus.

The Interactive Rock pool is a particularly popular part of the aquarium. This area faithfully recreates the rock pools often found on beach shores. Here, you can get to touch crabs, anemones and starfish.

The AquaDom and Sea Life Berlin are located right next to Alexanderplatz in the Mitte district and are open daily. Both are easily accessible by public transport, including the U-Bahn underground train, the S-Bahn railway system, buses and trams.
