Millions of visitors flock to Ocean Park every year, drawn by its combination of exciting rollercoasters, rare animals and special exhibitions themed around the natural world.Located in the Wong Chuk Hang and Nam Long Shan areas of the city’s Southern district, the park is split into two parts, the Summit and the Waterfront, flanking a huge mountain. There are shuttle bus, funicular railway and cable car connections between the two parts.The Summit offers spectacular 360-degree panoramas of the South China Sea from the Ocean Park Tower’s observation deck. Here you can visit the Atoll Reef aquarium to see a mesmerising collection of over 250 species of marine life, including the black-spotted stingray. After watching the graceful creatures of the deep, head for the white-knuckle thrills of rides such as The Abyss, which drops over 60 metres at speeds faster than freefall.The Waterfront is a playground for youngsters and the young at heart alike. The kids will have fun working off their surplus energy at the jungle gym before settling down in Animal Story Corner for a tale or two. The whole family will love meeting the rare giant pandas and red pandas in the Giant Panda Adventure, a purpose-built habitat that offers great close-ups of these fascinating and friendly creatures. Alligators are waiting to greet you with their toothy smiles in Gator Marsh, while over in the Goldfish Pavilion you can learn about the significant role these colourful fish play in Chinese culture.To complete your day, check out the programme of events in the park’s wildlife theatres. Marvel at the aerial acrobatics of falcons, eagles and vultures in the Bird Theatre, or enjoy displays of underwater prowess as the park’s marine stars perform in the Ocean Theatre. Don’t forget to visit the dolphin breeding centre, where you can learn more about the life cycle of these playful and elegant animals.Ocean Park is open daily except for major holidays. Take bus number 629 from Central Pier 7 or Admiralty MTR Station, Exit B. Check the website for ticket information some tickets include admission to the theatre shows, so make sure you get to see everything you want by choosing the right package. Children under three are admitted free of charge.
