Museum of Modern Art

Museum of Modern Art showing a city
Immerse yourself in the visual delights of modern art, including some of the most famous pieces in the world, at New York City’s beloved museum.

Discover and be inspired by the art of today at the Museum of Modern Art, lovingly known as MoMA. Since opening its doors in 1929, it has welcomed millions of visitors to Midtown Manhattan to see some of the finest masterpieces of modern times inside the museum. Browse through a vast and impeccably curated collection of sculpture, photography, prints, film, paintings and more.

Check out six floors of exhibits. See modern masterpieces by renowned artists such as Salvador Dalí, Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso and more. Admire iconic pieces by Edward Hopper, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and other well-known American artists. Don’t miss favorites including Claude Monet’s Water Lilies triptych and Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. Aside from a massive permanent collection, MoMA also hosts an impressive array of special exhibits.

Bring the art to life through complimentary museum tours. Head to the second floor atrium and join a guided gallery talk. Wander through the museum at your own pace accompanied by an informative audio tour.

Sit back and relax in one of MoMA’s theaters as you watch the latest film or presentation being screened. After you’ve explored inside, step outside to the Sculpture Garden.

Enjoy refreshments at the Terrace 5, a café on the museum’s top level, with sweeping views of the Sculpture Garden and the Manhattan skyline. Browse through a variety of art-related wares in the gift shop, located in the museum lobby. Continue shopping across the street at the MoMA Design Store, which has a variety of modern and contemporary gifts.

While many museums are closed on Mondays, MoMA is open. Visit daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Take advantage of extended hours and complimentary admission on Friday evenings.

The Museum of Modern Art is one of the most popular museums in the world, and its lines to get in reflect that. It’s best to arrive early or purchase your admission ticket online before your visit. Once you’re inside, beat the crowds by taking the elevator to the museum’s top floor and working your way down.
