We weren't sure what to expect for our first guesthouse experience but the reviews don't lie and this place is just as special as everyone says it is. Upon arrival we were greeted by Akira, who is just the most amazing host! He helped my mum carry her suitcase to her room and has thought of everything and I mean everything! He walked us through all of the amenities before providing us with maps of the city, explanations on how to get the buses, food recommendations and even a token gift! Akira speaks Japanese, Italian and English so if you need to confirm any details before staying here you can call without any issues with the language barrier. Location: The guest house is a 10 minute walk from Nijo station or can be reached by just one bus stop. There is a supermarket on the way from the station too if you need to pick up any supplies. Kyoto is a sprawling city and we found Nijo to be a great spot. It's on the main bus routes into Gion and the main street of Kyoto while being close to the JR line. Room: The rooms have everything you need. The bathroom has a bath, shower and clothes drying system. It also has a washing machine, fridge and freezer. The rooms are really spacious and ours even had a small balcony out the back. There's an instruction manual on how to use everything and don't worry if you're confused Yoko or Akira will be more than happy to help explain!
