"Unexpected WOW Experience. Going back Sept 2017!"
We were on the last two days of our 6 day trip throughout Malaysia, starting in Kuala Lumpur and Sandakan. We wanted to wrap up the holiday with two relaxing days at a resort, doing much of nothing. We arrived at the Jesselton Ferry facility via taxi from the airport. A quick ride arriving to find the Gaya Island Resort was the only ferry desk to have an enclosed, air-conditioned room to await our departure to the island. The boat was much faster and cleaner than any other ferry service we could see, along with handling our luggage on and off the boat. Since we "checked in" at the Gaya Island Resort ferry office, we were quickly updated on the features, etc. of the resort immediately upon arriving. We arrived early and the resort held our luggage while we caught lunch and some beach time. Upon going to our room we were amazed of the beautiful landscape, cleanliness and eye for detail throughout the complex and level of care in the rooms. We booked the "cheapest room" and were quite happy with the amount of room and decor. The bathtub is gigantic. Big enough for two (or more). We purchased the all-inclusive meal/drink package upon our arrival. This, in our opinion was a bit stiff in price but more than covered our consumption over lunch and dinner, during our two night stay. Food was incredible and abundant. The delivery and timeliness of drinks is great and generous. We coordinated a lunch picnic excursion via their private beach and boat the following day.

"Great Hotel and Resort needing TLC."
The Pacific Sutera is Fantastic place to stay, but it is showing its age. The staff are the Hotel's greatest strength. They are friendly and welcoming with endless enthusiasm. The resort facilities are fantastic with lots of activities to enjoy. But the hotel is unfortunately no longer a 5 star hotel. It is a great 4 star hotel. The hotel is missing the finishing touches of a 5 star hotel because it is showing signs of ageing and or poor maintenance. In the room the wall paper is peeling, tiled areas have loose tiles and in most places you can spot repairs as the colours don't match or look poorly repaired. Walking to your room you will notice the doors of every room are faded, chipped, scratched and tired looking. Lunch and dinner at the hotel gets rather boring. Don't get me wrong the food served is first class, however the In room dining, Cafe Boleh, Breeze Club, Lobby Lounge and Waves essentially have the same menu items. Although, Cafe Boleh and Breeze club offer themed buffets on weekends. The Silk Garden is the only different menu option. Why have so many different food outlets if they all serve the same food. The Marina Club or sister hotel the Magellan are alternative dining option. They are not big things but it is the 1% things that stop the hotel getting 5 stars. I truly love this hotel because of the staff, activities available and location. I will certainly stay here again. It is just sad coming back to see my favourite hotel showing signs of age.

"Piece full, tranquil and chilled"
Great relaxation stay. There is no one around, the snorkeling and fish feeding is cool. We went diving which was good. Food is expensive, but the stay was worth it. The staff are so friendly! The monkeys make it hard to sit on the deck as they steel everything

"Good place close to waterfront and shops"
Pretty much everything from the bars on the waterfront to a market to shops selling gold and pearls not to mention some restaurants are all within a few minutes walk. There is a ferrry terminal very close again. Breakfast is good with a lot of choice but where do they hide the bacon?? Room is nice but a little on the small side imo however the aircon works well. Undergoing some works ( renovation?) at the moment and staff will advise you of this. It is not a cheap place but the hyatt would have to be unbelievably good to charge the prices they do there... which imo they are not much different not for the differential charged. Yes i would stay at le meridian again.
