For someone who doesn't often stay in hotels the fact that the Comfort Hotel Nagasaki offered outstanding free coffee in the foyer, free wifi in the rooms and breakfast included meant that Hotel Fino supplying none of these plus a cold, dark impersonal lobby and staff with attitude to match lost the fight from the first round (night). 'Nuff said. Would not stay here again. One small plus. View from the room was outstanding.

The location offers proximity to the business needs and for the leisure moments. The compromize is good for price and comfort. The breakfast could be improved for quality and location (actually is served in a annexed restaurant at base floor).
The only reason I gave to marks with a score was for lack of a great AC, but then again this is Japan. They all have them but it is almost forbidden to turn them on anywhere you go. Other than that it was a wonderful place easy to find and close to lots of cool stuff in Beppu.
But on the 3rd day at the hotel, they didn't clean the room. It seems that it was because we did not put a CLEAN-The-Room sign on the doorknob outside. Usually rooms should be cleaned. But they have a quite unique system that guests should put those signs out there. Maybe those signs are for the cleaning staff?
Very nice hotel. Location is a little out of the way, about a 1700 yen taxi ride up the hill from Beppu train station, where there are many restaurants, onsens, and activity. There was no food available at the hotel the night we arrived. Short walk to a convenience store where we picked up bentos. They provide a shuttle service to Beppu station leaving at 9, 10, and 11, and a shuttle service from Beppu station at 1, 3, and 5pm. Onsen at hotel was very good.
