This was our second time staying at the Kona Castle Reef . This oceanfront unit was comfortable, tidy and an excellent layout. Some of the lighting fixtures seemed dated and Could use replacement . Having the bbq’s there as an alternative cooking option was fantastic. We can’t wait to visit again next year and hopefully secure the same unit as we did this time .

Condo unit needed some maintenance before check in Bedside lampshade broken and left ( with pieces) in bedroom . Louvre doors enclosing laundry machines broken and wooden slats left laying inside the Cupboard .Parking pass was to be left in unit for new customer but no parking pass was found. We ended up writing our info on a piece of paper and placing that on the dashboard .

Held Our Room Ransom Through Hidden Fees

HIDDEN FEES! After paying in full prior to our trip through Hotels.com, we received an email from the management company 6 hours before our check in (while we were still on the plane to Hawaii) that we had an outstanding balance of $312.00, which was more than the price of a one night stay. When we landed and I was able to call, they claimed it was a cleaning fee and we would not receive our check in information until it was paid. Seeing as our only other option was to desperately find a new place, we paid the ransom. I called the manager about this fee, who said these fees were disclosed earlier. When I sent her my Hotels.com receipt stating my whole stay had already been paid for, along with her management company’s message via Hotels.com that never stated any price on these hidden fees, she went silent and refused to answer our calls or respond back to our multiple voicemails. She could not point out anywhere in the contract where these high fees would be charged. As for the “cleaning fee”, the floors were absolutely filthy when we arrived, with the bottoms of our feet turning black within seconds of entering the unit and removing our shoes. The only cleaning received during our three nights came after we left. The closet door to the washing machine was also busted through. This company was completely dishonest about the costs and I would urge anyone looking to book this place to reconsider.

It was pleasant! Coffee pot was old and shower in bedroom was not so great. Not enough hit water and the half shower door made for a messy, cold shower.

I was very disappointed in the unit we booked. The resort was beautiful, and well maintained. The unit we stayed in was filthy. It was very out dated. The air conditioning unit was in the living room, but the air didn't make it back to the bedroom, which made for very uncomfortable sleeping. There was a hide a bed in the living room, but it was broken so we couldn't sleep on it, and really just a piece of crap. The matress pad that was on the matress had several pee stains on it. The recliner in the living room was broken, so it didn't recline, and it had a horrible odor. My wife had to clean the bathtub because there was soap scum, and as she put it, absolutely gross. The only good thing about this place was the location, and the view. Very central to most places. You could walk to the shop's and restaurants. The patio outside our unit had a beautiful view of the water, and right next to a very small beach. If it weren't for these two things things, location, and the resort itself, i would give this place a below 1 rating if there was one. It was clearly not taken care of, and the owner obviously doesn't care!!
