Courthouse Markets

Courthouse Markets featuring markets and food
Meet in the shady tropical gardens of this pretty marketplace before experiencing some of Broome’s finest arts, crafts and gourmet produce.

Stroll around the stalls at Broome’s Courthouse Markets to see a magnificent array of locally made and artisanal items, from pearl jewellery to ice cream made from fresh tropical fruits. See what local artists and craftspeople have to offer as you browse the paintings and photographs, or pick up a snack from the vendors and watch the entertaining buskers.

Arrive early to explore the markets before the heat of the day sets in. Purchase an iced coffee from one of the vendors and enjoy some fresh tropical fruit for breakfast. The market stalls sell a diverse range of delicious fresh produce. Chat to the makers of the different chutneys, jams and cakes as you try samples.

Don’t miss the artists and jewellers who sell their craft at the Courthouse Markets. Among the art and craft for sale are photographs, illustrations, indigenous arts, ceramics and blown-glass objects, as well as magnificent handcrafted jewellery. There are also accessories from around the world, such as scarves and blankets, as well as items for the home, including handmade soaps and candles.

Plenty of meals and snacks are available at the Courthouse Markets, including an interesting selection of Thai, Indonesian and Filipino dishes. Sip a cool fruit smoothie and relax on the grass or the Courthouse veranda. From here, you can see buskers entertaining the marketgoers. You might watch performances by didgeridoo players, acrobats, clowns and musicians at different times during the day.

Treat yourself to a massage from the on-site therapists while the kids get their faces painted. You can also peruse items for your next adventure in Broome, such as fishing rods, or speak to the volunteers at Environs Kimberley, a local conservation organization.

The Courthouse Markets are open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., year-round. The markets also open on Sundays between the Easter Weekend and October, when the weather is drier. Parking is available on the streets around the block. Put aside an hour or the whole morning to enjoy the markets and friendly atmosphere.
