We had no choice as there was no where else in Burra. Previous reviews had complained about a step in a dark corridor and nothing had been done to fix this problem and my partner also missed this step and stumbled. At least some yellow tape on the step would help. The corridors are stacked with old boxes and other bits of junk. You do get what you pay for and the room is simply furnished. At least the room was warm. The meal however was wonderful. Would eat there any time

Family stay
Posted 22 Apr 2021 on HotelsPassage to the room was dark, and even though I wa advised there was a step in the corridor, it wasunseen in the dark and i fell and hurt my arm when I contacted a ladder stored with an idustrial vacuum cleaner also stored by the ladder. Not impressed and when I reported it to the Bar I was given the impression that it was my fault. Could have broken my arm on the ladder.
Men's bathroom had not been cleaned and louvre windows had faces displayed on them in the dust. No locks on the doors.
Bearing in mind that it is an old building (c. 1850) a little more attention could be paid to guest accommodation and facilities.
The guest lounge had a sign asking that when vacating lounge external door to be locked, turn off lights and television. There was no television in the room.
Otherwise, staff friendly and dining room meals excellent.

It was an historic pub. A bit like going back to 1900! You pay for what you get so $77/double/night was reasonable. As long as your expectations are not high this budget accommodation is ok. Shared bathroom between about 9 rooms would be a bummer if the place was full, but there was only one other guest when we were there.

You get what you pay for! The cleanliness is disappointing.

Awesome. Traditional pub stay. Room was spartan but very comfortable. Excellent meal in the evening and drinks at 1970s prices. And cost was half of what I paid up the Track to stay in a ‘donga’. Staff were very friendly and helpful. When next in Burra, I’ll definitely be staying at the Royal Exchange Hotel. (Thanks, Harrison)
