Lovely property. I don’t understand why people rated this poorly. The water was hot, the utilities worked great. They are a bit older, but it didn’t not bother me. We stayed in the bungalow 1 and it had a great view. We were invited to walk the property and the staff was v friendly

Beautiful hotel with lush gardens and view

Posted 11 Aug 2020 on Hotels
Some of the pictures are outdated because additional rooms have been build in a second row. Our room did not match the booking pictures as it was in the second row and perhaps a little more exposed to sound and with less of a view compared to the front row. But the wonderful greens and gardens, as well as great view from the breakfast terrace and attached sitting area make up for an overall great stay. Service staff could be more proactive. The plastic DIY store shampoo dispenser did not work unless you open the lid and dip in. But again these small aspects are compensated by a wonderful hotel set up and surrounding farmland view with easy walks to experience Balinese culture.

Lack of service and comfort

Posted 9 Nov 2018 on Hotels
The resort could be nice but lack of service (super slow check in, wifi not working, no umbrella but heavy rain, full of flies in the bathroom). We went to the Spa, the worst ever, I had some drops of the rain on my face, there was a frog in the spa bathroom + hundreds of flies, the blanket was hitchy, terrible. Usually during a message you don’t want it to end, there it was the opposite

Really great stay at Atas Awan Retreat! The staff were friendly and attentive, the grounds are picturesque and immaculate, and the location is remote and peaceful but not too far off the beaten path. It was so nice to get up in the mountains where the air is cool and fresh (no aircon needed), and to be away from the hustle and bustle at a place that is all about relaxation and meditation. I really enjoyed starting the day with yoga. The staff also organized a day tour for us with driver, and we chose to visit the Sekumpul Waterfall, Handara Gate, and Jatiluweh Rice Terrace. All were great destinations I would recommend. Breakfasts and dinners at the on-site restaurant were really tasty with a lovely view and very convenient. Note that the two studio rooms are located above the restaurant, which I imagine may be noisy and less private for some guests though they have the best views on the property. We stayed in a Lumbung bungalow, which is separated from the restaurant, so we were not affected by any noise other than the sounds of nature (chickens, dogs, birds). We also liked the resident watch dog, who barked a little but was really sweet once she became familiar with us. In all, it was a wonderful experience that really added to our Bali vacation. A great place to stay for day trips to the northern sites, which would otherwise be really far if you were instead staying in Ubud for instance.

Cons: put heaters in the rooms, get english speaking staff or at least receptionnist
I got disappointed in Atas Awan, I expected much more from the place. The reasons of my disappointement are numerous : 1) the place is in the mountain and is freezing, there’s NO heater in the rooms! So the rooms are maybe 17 degrees. There’s no hairdryer either, I just couldn’t believe it when I was looking for the heater and there was none. I went to do massage in there “spa” at night, no heater either, I had to stop it before I got pneumonia 2) the yoga room is wide open to the fresh air, but when the air is that cold you just can’t enjoy the 7am class, I was wearing socks and poncho 3) the yoga classroom was dirty, I mean they give what 1 or 2 classes a day and it wasn’t possible the clean the wild dogs paw marks on the floor ( the yoga room has no door) 4) the food is pretty poor, but that’s a mountain hotel so I cannot be too angry for that, except maybe the breakfast “fruits”, one slice of mandarin, and one slice of dry watermelon. 5) the view isn’t on rice fields but on salads , so I had view on greenhouses plastic. 6) the staff simply doesn’t speak English. Like really, they don’t. We asked for two hour massages body and feet, we got 2 hours massage on body only (I felt asleep and woke up surprised they wouldn’t do feet... my body is still in pain). We ask for only 1 boil egg additional, they bring us a full breakfast with egg, we want to plan a day tour it takes us 30 minutes to be understood, etc...

Reasonable price but probably better options

Posted 2 Aug 2018 on Hotels
The accomodation was nice thought our room was not cleaned for 2 days and we had to ask for fresh towels. Also they did minor building work on the adjacent bungalow (built a porch) during our last day which was very noisy. Finally the surrounding area is beautiful but there isn't anything today unless you get in a car and drive 30mins or so.

The hotel is not the newest one. There is a problem with the organization. But the hotel is situated in the nature. Our house had a fantastic view on the rice terraces. And a free yoga class was organized for everyone who wanted.

Great retreat in a hear of a local village

Posted 2 Jun 2018 on Hotels
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the hotel was nice, beautiful and had plenty of outdoor sitting areas and terraces to take in and enjoy the breathtaking views of the rice terraces. The staff was extremely friendly, accommodating and made us feel like a family. Complimentary yoga lessons were excellent and a cutest resident dog Chinta had really made our stay! Would highly recommend to visit if you want to get off a beaten path and see another side of the island and Balinese life.

Place is really nice, the staff was very nice too but misses a lot of details. The bathroom was very poor and unclean. The bath mat had bleach stains, no clean towels provided after two days. The breakfast was very poor and the dishes of the restaurant were really NOT GOOD. I insist these problems are to get checked from the OWNERS of the place, as they sell the hotel as a "eco-boutique", but it's far from that. The staff (Putu, Made and the girls), were always very nice to us and friendly and made their best to make us feel well when they could.
